About this Project
This exceptional project highlights Conta’s profound expertise in bridging the gap between historical architecture and modern structural demands. Located in a high-density urban core, this iconic heritage building required a comprehensive, highly sensitive intervention. While its stunning classical exterior remained a vital piece of the city’s architectural identity, the internal load-bearing systems had deteriorated significantly over the decades, rendering the space unusable for modern commercial or public operations.
Conta was tasked with a dual mission: to meticulously preserve the building's authentic heritage craftsmanship while executing a complete structural renewal from the inside out. Our engineering team initiated the project with non-destructive testing and microscopic material analysis. This allowed us to develop custom-formulated, historical-grade mortars and structural elements that matched the original chemical makeup of the building, preventing material rejection and preserving the irreplaceable patina of the facade.
The true triumph of this project lay in the internal structural renewal. While keeping the external heritage shell completely untouched, Conta safely integrated a hidden, high-performance steel exoskeleton and upgraded the deep foundations. We modernized the internal infrastructure, installing energy-efficient climate control systems and advanced fire safety protocols that operate invisibly behind historical walls. The result is a spectacular, fully functional space that meets rigorous modern safety codes while retaining its timeless grandeur. Through this project, Conta has successfully revitalized a piece of history, transforming a fragile relic into an enduring urban asset.
